How to Make Your Lipstick Last All Day

Posted by Angela Nacpil on

For us girls, no matter which brand we use, the top priority is to make our lipstick last. That’s why I thought it’s good to share a couple of steps on how to make your favorite lipstick last all day (and night) long, regardless of the color or brand.

Step 1: Exfoliate

Surprised? The secret of smooth, supple, and rosy lips is exfoliation. Dry and cracked lips is a poor canvass for a fabulous lip color. Exfoliate and keep your lips hydrated before going to bed. Make it a part of your night face routine and you’ll see a big difference in no time. Check out IntoTheGloss’s best lip scrubs list, as well as a DIY suggestion.

Step 2: Use Concealer

This is one of the best-kept secrets of makeup artists. Patting some concealer on your lips is similar to putting primer on your eyelids – it makes color lasts. Using concealer as a foundation on your lips will help set it and it will make your lipstick more vibrant because concealer gives your lips a neutral base.

Step 3: Apply a lip liner

Lining the outer lines of your pout creates a barrier so your lipstick won’t bleed. This is a popular technique among makeup artists. It’s a crucial technique but often forgotten.

Step 4: Use a lip brush

A lip brush gives you more precision when applying your choice of lip color. It isn’t necessary especially if you are travelling but it’s definitely a must-have for girls who panic at the slightest sight of lipstick bleeding.

Step 5: Blot

Grab a tissue paper and lightly blot your lips to get rid of any excess oil and product. Do this after you first applied your lip color.

Step 6: Apply last coat of color

Right after blotting, once your first swipe have set, apply your second and last coat for the finishing touch and you’re good to go.
